Betzdorf, 12 May 2025. The new air-cooled Slave and Master chillers from SCHÄFER IT-Systems fulfil all the requirements of a highly efficient cooling system: The product solution uses R290 (propane), a natural refrigerant, and is specially tailored to applications in industrial process cooling with high temperatures and low operating costs. Another plus point is the high level of integration flexibility – especially in modern IT infrastructures such as edge environments and data centres.
Compared to synthetic refrigerants, the natural refrigerant has a significantly lower global warming potential (GWP) and therefore helps to optimise the carbon footprint. Thanks to its high thermodynamic efficiency, the water chiller enables effective cooling with low operating costs – a decisive advantage in view of rising energy costs and increasing regulatory requirements in the area of environmental protection. This makes the chiller a prime example of the continuous development at technology partner Euroklimat – meeting the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 quality standard.
The device is designed for outdoor installation up to 45 °C (113 °F) and complies with EU Regulation 2016/2281 on the Ecodesign Directive. The main components include a semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor, axial fans and an efficient condensing coil. A microprocessor controls the compressor output and monitors operating alarms. The new development also features important safety elements and is equipped with ATEX-certified components.
Other advantageous product features include the integrated free cooling function, which was previously rarely available in this appliance class. If the outside temperature is lower than the desired chilled water temperature, the water chiller can dispense with the energy-intensive compressor operation and use outside air for cooling instead. This leads to considerable electricity savings, particularly in the spring and autumn transition periods, and reduces operating costs in the long term.
A key feature is the availability of this function even in lower output ranges – making the Slave and Master chillers extremely versatile in their application. The systems are designed for high operational reliability and a long service life. The robust design, the use of proven components and easy access for maintenance tasks ensure reliable and economical operation – even under demanding operating conditions.
The new water chillers from SCHÄFER IT-Systems offer significant added value, particularly in the rapidly growing area of edge computing. Customers receive all components – from racks, PDUs and indoor units, through to cooling generation – from a single source. This not only reduces the number of contact persons, but also simplifies planning, installation and maintenance. In contrast to classic data centres, where the water chiller is often sourced from third-party providers, customers in the edge environment benefit from a fully integrated solution.
“We are pleased that we can continue our consistent orientation towards becoming a solution provider in the field of decentralised IT applications with the new water chillers from Euroklimat. The use of sustainable and efficient air-conditioning systems has been close to our hearts at SCHÄFER for many years. 100 % water cooling has been an established scenario in the field of rack-based air conditioning solutions for years,” says Thomas Wermke, Division Manager at SCHÄFER IT-Systems.
The shared vision for forward-looking, sustainable solutions is also clearly emphasised by Sven Schwarze, Managing Director and Partner at Euroklimat Germany: “Albert Einstein put it in a nutshell: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. For this very reason, I am delighted that our partner SCHÄFER IT-Systems, along with us at Euroklimat Deutschland, wants to leave nothing as it is and that we will be offering sustainable and customised complete IT solutions for our customers together from May 2025. Here’s to a successful partnership – and to making a difference!”
The water chillers are not only suitable for IT infrastructures, but also for cooling office buildings, industrial manufacturing processes and complex air conditioning systems. Their performance, energy efficiency and flexibility make them the ideal choice for a wide range of industries and applications.
